Sculptural Pieces

Production pottery and functional vessels have served a purpose for thousands of years of human existence; however, sculptural pieces have just as much function and purpose as those pieces that we use on a daily basis. Sculpture has long been used as a means of exacting social, political, and economic change dating back to the earliest humans, and I hope to carry on that historical tradition in an attempt to create a better world for our children in any way that I can. If even one person looks a sculpture that I have made and senses a profound motivation to live differently, then I feel like my future as an artist and sculptor has meaning. Look closely at them, think critically, and accept that fact that we all have room to change. Let us all aspire to be better, together.

Sculpture is often meant to stand on a pedestal in a gallery somewhere, encouraging the public to see and think, but not interact. The preferred means of creation for myself is to blend the critical engagement of sculpture with the everyday use of function, providing people with a work that inspires thought and encourages reflection on a daily basis. Self-enlightenment should not be reserved for the gallery, but should be encouraged and praised every day. My hope is that the sculpted vessels that I create will serve as a lifelong space for reflection and enlightenment for those that choose them.

Blending Function and Art

Physiognomy, the study of facial appearances and our outward expressions, has been an interest of mine for life. We live among billions of other humans, the majority of which we will only ever glimpse once and never see again. Even among the booming planetary population, I have felt alone and isolated, and I hope that these representations of our fellow humans can alleviate some of the profound loneliness that others and I experience on a daily basis. Have a cup of coffee with a friend, garden with a hero, and reject the isolation of modernity. Put more faces in your special places.
